Jalen Smith hits game winner in Maryland’s win over Nebraska

Maryland freshman Jalen Smith came through in the clutch during the Terps’ Big Ten matchup against No. 24 Nebraska on Wednesday evening.

Smith, the former Mt. Saint Joseph standout, converted a floater with 3.8 seconds left to beat the Cornhuskers 74-72 in Maryland’s biggest victory of the season.

Smith finished the game with 15 points and four rebounds. Terps’ sophomore Bruno Fernando tallied 18 points and 17 rebounds. Junior guard Anthony Cowan Jr. scored a team-high 19 points.

The Terps were down 71-70 until Smith scored to put them up by one with 31 seconds left. Nebraska’s James Palmer converted a free throw to tie the game before Smith hit a go-ahead layup.

Smith scored Maryland’s final seven points of the game. Palmer led Nebraska with 26 points and seven rebounds.
