The University of Maryland basketball team received their second commitment in the 2016 class as 4-star shooting guard Kevin Huerter announced on Twitter that he will be committing to Maryland.
Out of Clifton, New York, Kevin exploded onto the college
scene when he led Shenendehowa to its first state championship. At 6 foot 5, 180 pounds, Huerter is a top-100 prospect who was rated No. 41 in the ESPN rankings and No. 64 in the 247sports rankings.
Last month, Kevin took an unofficial visit to Maryland and loved it. He narrowed his list to eight schools three weeks ago and those schools were Creighton, Davidson, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Notre Dame, and Villanova. Huerter officially visited Villanova on August 30-31 and he canceled his visits to Michigan and Notre Dame.
Kevin Huerter will join Anthony Cowan (St. John’s) as players who committed to the Terps in the 2016 class. He is a dynamic shooter that will be a key perimeter player for the Terps down the road.
Maryland got back into the big picture last season and now they are favorites to win the national title this year. The Terps look to continue building a strong team so they can contend for years to come. They are trying to also bring in Josh Jackson, who is one of the top players in the 2016 class. Also five-star forward Wenyen Gabriel and guard Brandon Robinson will visit College Park this month.
Maryland has made some big recruiting splashes in football and now they are trying to do the same thing in basketball.
