BROOKLYN, NY- Team Takeover (DC) officially got Nike EYBL play going in Session 1 which took place in the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal.
Takeover opened with a 85-59 win over All Ohio Red on April 16. Gonzaga guard Chris Lykes led Takeover with 18 points and was 4-5 from the free throw line. DeMatha’s DJ Harvey tallied 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Maret’s Luka Garza posted eight points and seven rebounds. All Ohio top scorer was Reece Strohm, who finished with 11 points. Takeover shot an impressive 53 percent from the floor and out rebounded All Ohio 39-26.
The second game of the day was against Boo Williams (VA). Boo Williams was only down 31-27 at halftime but a 34 points outburst by Takeover in the second half led to a 65-51 victory. Once again, Chris Lykes was the top scorer on the team as he finished with 21 points and collected four steals.
DeMatha guard Ryan Allen, who has offers from schools like George Mason, UAB, and Towson, finished with 11 points. Boo Williams was led by DeMatha’s big man Josh Carlton. The 6 foot 9 center finished with 20 points and five rebounds. Carlton is listed as a four-star prospect by ESPN and has offers from Old Dominion and Penn State.
Boo Williams managed have a higher shooting percentage from the field than Takeover. Boo shot 50 percent while Team Takeover shot 46 percent. Boo Williams also recorded more rebounds than Takeover but the 21 turnovers was the thing that hurt them.
Takeover wrapped up Session 1 with a 76-55 win over Mac Irvin Fire (IL) on April 17. Team Takeover had four players to score in double figures. Gonzaga’s Eddie Scott had 14 points, Chris Lykes scored 10 points, while DJ Harvey and Luka Garza posted doubles-doubles, 11 points and 10 rebounds.
