Pittsburgh and new head coach Kevin Stallings received their first commitment from the 2017 class when point guard Aaron Thompson announced his decision on Sunday.

The Paul VI guard is rated a 3-star, ranked the No. 13 player in Virginia and the No. 47 point guard in the country by 247sports.com. Thompson had 15 scholarship offers from schools like George Mason, Dayton, Miami, VCU, Penn State, Vanderbilt and Georgia Tech.

Thompson took an unofficial visit to Vanderbilt on February 27, 2016. That was the time when Kevin Stallings was still the head coach for the Commodore’s. Pittsburgh offered Aaron right after Stallings joined the coaching staff.

During the 2015-16 basketball season, he was third on his team in scoring with 9.3 points per game. He helped the Panthers to a 20-14 record and runner-up to the Virginia State title. He was selected to the Second Team All-WCAC. Thompson is currently playing for Team Takeover at the Nike EYBL where he is averaging 5.6 points, 3.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per contest.

Aaron will be the second Paul VI player going to Pittsburgh. Senior center Corey Manigault will be playing for the Panthers next season. The four-star prospect decided to decommit when there was a coaching change but, he ended up to sticking with the team.

Thompson is known for being more of a floor general than a scorer. He gets his teammates involved offensively and is a solid defender.
