Urban Meyer and Ohio State continues to get better as defensive end Chase Young committed to the Buckeyes at Friday Night Lights.
“I like the coaching staff,” Young told Scout.com. “(Defensive line) coach (Larry) Johnson is the best defensive line coach in the country.”
The five-star DeMatha standout is rated the No. 3 weak-side defensive end in the nation and the No. 1 player in Maryland by 247sports. Young could have gone to any school in the country, but he was considering schools like Maryland, Alabama, Notre Dame and USC.
Young took two unofficial visits to Alabama and one visit to Maryland before his decision.
With the amount of local talent going to Maryland and possibility of pairing with five-star defensive end Joshua Kaindoh, the Terps seemed like the place Young was headed to. Yet Meyer’s track record for winning out weighed Maryland’s “Stay Home Movement.”
“One thing you know about coach (Urban) Meyer is he’s a winner,” Young said. “You know that from looking at his history coaching. He’s a winner.”
