
Sidwell Friends guard Jelani Williams announced his commitment to the University of Penn on Sunday afternoon.
The 6-foot-4 senior held offers from Temple, Quinnipiac, Boston University, Old Dominion, George Washington, Rice, Delaware and other Division I programs.
Williams had a breakout junior year where he led Sidwell Friends in points, rebounds and assists. He averaged 16.4 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game. Williams recorded six double-doubles and one triple-double. When Sidwell Friends played against Cesar Chavez on Dec. 5, Jelani tallied 28 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists.
Williams will be joining Gonzaga guard Eddie Scott in Penn’s 2017 recruiting class. Both of them spent time over the summer playing for Team Takeover in the Nike EYBL circuit.
