Jackson, Huerter helps Maryland beat St. Peter’s, 66-56

Maryland earns its 10th win of the season against St. Peter's.

Maryland earn its 10th victory of the season as the team beat St. Peter’s, 66-56 on Saturday.

Freshmen Justin Jackson and Kevin Huerter led the way for the Terps. Jackson finished the game with a team-high 19 points, while Huerter tallied a career-high 14 points. Fellow freshman Anthony Cowan had eight points, three assists and two steals.

The Terps shot 45 percent from the floor and 38 percent from the three-point line. Maryland had a strong first half as the team shot over 60 percent. The Terps opened the game on a 14-0 run and took a 40-18 lead going into halftime. Huerter nailed three three-pointers in the first half.

St. Peter’s was down 61-40 with under five minutes to go in the second half before the team went on a huge run to cut Maryland’s lead down to 10. That was the closes the Peacocks could get.

Quadir Welton led the Peacocks in scoring with 16 points. Chazz Peterson registered 13 points in the loss. The Peacocks shot 38 percent from the floor.

Guard Melo Trimble, who finished with five points in 26 minutes, passed Joe Smith in the Maryland’s all-time scoring list. Trimble is 27th with 1,291 career points.
