Paul VI junior Brandon Slater committed to Villanova on Wednesday to become Head Coach Jay Wright’s first recruit in the 2018 class.
Slater, who is rated a four-star, picked the Wildcats over Maryland, Louisville, Miami, Syracuse, Temple, Virginia, West Virginia and Virginia Tech.
The 6-foot-6 shooting guard is ranked the top player in Virginia, and the fourth best shooting guard in the nation by 247sports.
Slater averaged 15.6 points per game and tallied 60 three-pointers for Paul VI, which was a team high during the 2016-17 season. Slater is currently playing for Team Takeover 17u in the Nike EYBL circuit where he is averaging 7.8 points and 3.2 rebounds in about 18 minutes per game.
Slater will bring good size, length and versatility to Villanova. He can also score from inside and out, while using his long arms to block shots on the defensive end.
