
Gonzaga quarterback Caleb Williams and Damascus junior defensive end Bryan Bresee were named Gatorade State Player of the Year on Friday. Williams received the award for the District of Columbia, Bresee received player of the year honors for Maryland.
Williams is coming off a solid sophomore season where he threw for 2,624 yards and 26 touchdowns, while rushing with 394 yards and 10 touchdowns. Williams, who helped Gonzaga to a 9-3 record, threw the game winning touchdown pass in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship victory over DeMatha. It was Gonzaga’s first conference championship in 16 years.
Williams holds offers from Alabama, Florida, Boston College, Maryland, Penn State and others.
Bresee, who is ranked the best player in the 2020 recruiting class by 247sports, tallied 46 tackles, 12.5 sacks and 34 tackles for loss. Bresee helped Damascus to a 11-1 record this season.
Bresee is has cut his list of colleges to Georgia, Penn State, Clemson, Alabama, Michigan and Ohio State.
