DeMatha football head coach Elijah Brooks announced on Wednesday that he will be stepping down from his position to join the University of Maryland coaching staff as a running backs coach.
“It has been an honor to lead my alma mater for the past eight years,” Brooks said in a statement on Instagram. “No way I can thank the DeMatha family enough for the wonderful experiences and memories we have had on this journey together. I love you all more than you will ever know. Excited for the next chapter!”
Brooks’ decision to join Maryland’s coaching staff came a week after the Terps hired Mike Locksley to be the head coach.
Brooks coached at DeMatha since 2011. He led to Stags to four straight Washington Catholic Athletic Conference titles from 2013-2016 and compiled a 72-20 record. The Stags returned to the conference championship this season, but lost to Gonzaga on a game-winning Hail Mary touchdown pass.
Maryland already has strong DeMatha tides, as Anthony McFarland, Tino Ellis, Terrance Davis and Lorenzo Harrison played for the Hyattsville school.
There hasn’t been any word on who will take over the head coach position at DeMatha.
