DeMatha senior defensive back Nick Cross announced on Tuesday that he will sign with the University of Maryland after being verbally committed to Florida State since September.
Cross is a four-star and ranked the top rated in Maryland, according to 247sports. This is the first time Maryland signed the best player in the state since 2014 when the Terps picked up Damian Prince.
Cross was being heavily recruited by Maryland, Penn State, Georgia and LSU for months leading up to National Signing Day. Cross would end up taking an official visit to Penn State and an unofficial visit to Georgia during the first week of February.
Cross, who was still committed to Florida State at the time, didn’t signed during National Signing Day, as he was still deciding between Maryland, the Seminoles and Penn State.
Cross will join a Maryland roster that consist of seven former DeMatha football players. Former head coach Elijah Brooks is now the running backs coach at Maryland.
With the signing of Cross and Wise wide receiver Isaiah Hazel, the Terps have the top two offensive and defensive players in the state from the 2019 class.
