With the excitement surrounding the NCAA Tournament and people watching their brackets being busted, I thought about getting into the spirit of March Madness by creating a bracket based off of the top high school boys’ basketball teams in the Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia area.
I followed the same guidelines the NCAA use to pick the 60-plus that compete in the tournament. The teams selected for the high school boys’ basketball bracket are from the DMV area and Baltimore. The selection process was also based on record, conference and state champions, notable wins and local/national rankings. Conference and state champions (Maryland 1A, 2A, 3A, etc.) received automatic bids.
Just like the NCAA Tournament, this bracket consist of four regions (East, West, Midwest and South). The only difference is the bracket consist of 32 teams and there is no First Four.
Reminder, this tournament will not really happen, but it’s always fun to think about.
