It wasn’t hard to decided whether DeMatha should be a first seed in the bracket. The Stags finished first in the AllMets Top 20 rankings and 17th in the USA Today High School Boys’ Basketball rankings. DeMatha, who finished the 2018-19 season with a 33-5 record, lost to St. John’s in the WCAC semifinals, but rebounded by winning the Alhambra championship.
No. 2 St. Stephen’s/St. Agnes had an impressive season, winning the Interstate Athletic Conference and the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association. The Saints had a 27-3 record and placed fifth in the AllMets Top 20 rankings. St. Stephen’s will place No. 7 Rock Creek Christian Academy in the first round. Rock Creek earned a spot after winning the Capital Beltway League.
No. 3 St. John’s, who was led by Virginia commit Casey Morsell, finished with a 26-13 record and earned a trip to the WCAC championship game where the Cadets lost to Gonzaga. No. 5 Mount Saint Joseph took the fifth seed in the tournament. The Gaels finished 27-11 and place fourth in the Baltimore Sun High School Boys’ Basketball rankings.
