St. John’s quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava committed to Brigham Young University of Sunday.
Maiava, who is rated a three-star and ranked the ninth best player in D.C. by 247Sports, picked BYU over Hawaii, Michigan, Purdue, Oregon and others.
Maiava, who transferred to St. John’s, played in his first season with the Cadets last year. Prior to coming to the D.C. school, Maiava was one of the top players in Hawaii.
Maiava left Kahuku High School in order to increase his college chances.
Maiava has made a name for himself with his speed and his arm strength. Maiava is good at making strong passes in the pocket while avoiding defenders with his quickness.
Maiava will be a key player for St. John’s, who is expected to be one of the top football teams in the nation during the 2019 season.
