The high school football season is here with teams in the area preparing to kick off this weekend. To get ready for the upcoming season, here is a look at the top five players in the area from the 2020 recruiting class.

Bryan Bresee, DT, Damascus

Bresee is not just the best player in the area, but the best player in the nation. The Clemson commit, who is rated a five-star, is ranked the top player in the country and the 15th best high school recruit of all-time by 247Sports. Bresee was named the Gatorade Player of the Year for Maryland last season after registering 46 tackles and 12.5 sacks.

Chris Braswell, WDE, St. Frances Academy

Braswell is ranked the second best player in Maryland and No. 16 overall player in the country by 247Sports. Braswell held offers from Clemson, LSU, Florida and many others before committing to Alabama. Expect Braswell to continue to be a driving force in St. Frances’ defense this season.

Mekhail Sherman, OLB, St. John’s

Sherman, who is committed to Georgia, has developed into one of the most athletic defensive players in the nation. Sherman, a five-star, is ranked the best player in D.C. and the second best outside linebacker in the country. Sherman’s strength and physicality will help the Cadets, who are ranked a top five team in the country heading into the season.

Marshawn Lloyd, RB, DeMatha

DeMatha is known for producing high-level talent at the running back position. Lloyd adds on to the list. The South Carolina commit is ranked the eighth best running back and the No. 49 overall player in the country by 247Sports. Lloyd’s size and speed has made him a difference maker for the Stags on offense. With fairly new faces on offense for Head Coach Bill McGregor, expect Lloyd to be a key leader this season.

Rakim Jarrett, WR,  St. John’s

Jarrett is coming off a strong junior season where he recorded 763 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. Jarrett, who committed to LSU in April, is ranked the second best player in D.C. and the 19th best prospect in the 2020 recruiting class.
