Maryland senior point guard Anthony Cowan Jr. was named Big Ten Player of the Week on Monday, making it the third time this season he received that honor.
Cowan is fresh off a stellar performance against Michigan State on Feb. 15, as he tallied 24 points and four rebounds. With the Terps trailing by one, Cowan would go on to score the final 11 points to carry his team to a 67-60 victory.
Cowan averaged 18.5 points, six assists and two steals throughout the week to extend Maryland’s win streak to eight games and keep the team at the top of the Big Ten.
The Bowie native is the first Terp since Greivis Vasquez to earn Player of the Week honors three times in a season.
Maryland, who is ranked seventh nationally in the latest AP Poll, will take on Northwestern in the Xfinity Center on Tuesday evening. The Terps currently hold a 14-0 record at home.
