NFL players don’t understand

Lately the NFL has gotten on my nerves. The Washington Redskins are having a terrible season, and they recently lost to the Minnesota Vikings. It truly sucks to be a Redskins fan, I’m telling you.

The Skins season are not the reason why I’m getting tired of the NFL. The real reason is the stupidity of the players. Almost every day I look at ESPN and see NFL players getting suspended or arrested because of domestic violence or drug abuse. I don’t know what’s going on in these players’ heads. Common sense would tell them if one player gets suspended because of drugs, they shouldn’t do it. Maybe they are high or they are just that stupid and immature.

Let’s take a look at some of the crazy antics players do during their free time.

Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon was arrested for drinking while driving on Jul. 8. A month later, Gordon was suspended by the league for one year for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. Luckily, Gordon’s suspension was reduced to eight games due to the NFL’s new drug policy.

Even though his suspension is over, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe was arrested for possession of marijuana. Former Redskins tight end Fred Davis is suspended indefinitely for failing fifty drug tests. Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker and fourteen other NFL players were suspended for the use of PEDs (performance enhancing drugs).

Probably the dumbest story I have heard was the Aldon Smith story. San Francisco linebacker Aldon Smith went to an airport filled with hundreds of people and yelled that he has a bomb. What makes it worse is that Smith didn’t have a bomb in the first place. He gets arrested and suspended for nine games. What an idiot.

The Ray Rice story is one of the biggest scandals the NFL has dealt with in a long time. The Baltimore Ravens running back was arrested on Feb.15 for aggravated assault after he punched his wife Janay Rice in the face. Four days later, TMZ released a video of Rice dragging unconscious Janay  out of an elevator.

Rice pleaded not guilty, but the league suspended him for two games. As the season got started, TMZ released another video of Rice punching Janay in the face, while they were in an elevator. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announced Rice’s contract with the Ravens was terminated and he was suspended indefinitely.

I just don’t get it. It’s one player after another. No one learns from others mistakes. They keep on repeating the same mistakes over and over again. When will they learn? The league is not doing a good job teaching them because players get high and they get suspended for eight to ten games. Good job NFL! It’s not like they are not getting high ,while they are sitting on their couch for eight weeks.

Rice was out two games for knocking the crap out of his wife until the league saw an actual footage of the incident and suspended him indefinitely. They should have done that in the first place. If I was commissioner, players that do drugs or commit some sort of domestic violence would be suspended for an entire season, pay a fine, and be required to go to some sort of rehab clinic.

NFL players need to realize what they are doing affects the league and themselves. They also need to understand that young football players look up to these athletes as role models.

So far it looks like they haven’t got the memo.
