Five-star DE Chase Young talks recruiting and upcoming visits

DeMatha defensive end Chase Young is one of the top defensive players in the nation, and one of the most sought out players. In a Rivals.com video by Adam Freeman, Young talked about the recruitment process, and schools that has caught his attention.

The 6-foot-5 defensive end told Freeman the schools that he is focusing on are Maryland, Ohio State, Alabama, Michigan, Michigan State and USC.

When Young was asked about what he thought about Maryland, he liked the things that’s happening at College Park.

“I been feeling real good about it [Maryland],” Young told Freeman. “Me, and Josh Kaindoh coming off the edge is a good mixture right there with Cam Spence. They are getting the offense together. Getting some four-star receivers.”

Young got into his relationship with the Ohio State coaching staff, especially the one he has with the Buckeyes defensive line coach Larry Johnson.

“We have a real good relationship. I talk to him at least twice a week,” Young explained. “I think I will be up there on July 22 for Friday Night Lights.”

The five-star recruit is very intrigued with Alabama. He plans to take a visit up there real soon.

“Alabama is high on my list. I’m going down there probably next Monday,” The No. 1 player in the area said. “I expect to see good people, great coaching staff, see what they will do with me on film, sit down with coach Saban, and see what kind of man he is.”

Young explained that Michigan and Michigan State are recruiting him hard. He also talks about how he likes their defense, and the Wolverines defensive line coach Greg Mattison.

“They are recruiting me hard,” Chase said. “Coach [Greg] Mattison, Michigan defensive line coach, is another great defensive line coach that puts a lot of people in the league.”

Michigan already landed 2017 defensive linemen Luiji Vilain and Corey Malone-Hatcher, but that doesn’t matter to Young.

“I’m not cocking, but I think I’m the best out here,” Chase said.

Closing out the interview, Young was asked to rank the schools he is considering.

“Ohio State, Alabama, Maryland, Michigan, USC and Michigan State.”

Young doesn’t have any other visits scheduled besides Maryland, Alabama and Ohio State. He also said he wants to make a college decision before the football season starts.
