Cadets sweep Elizabeth Seton to kick off the season

St. John’s girls’ volleyball team kicked off the 2016 season with a commanding 3-0 win over conference foe Elizabeth Seton on Thursday.

The Cadets (1-0) opened the match with a 25-20 win. They followed that with a 25-11 victory in the second set, and edged out the Roadrunners (0-1) 25-22 in the final set.

Junior setter Rebecca Frye tallied two kills, two blocks, seven aces and a team leading 15 assists. Lauren Antonucci registered six kills and five assists.  Senior Nia Taylor chipped in three kills and six blocks. While, Nicole Taylor finished with six kills.

St. John’s next game will be a home opener against Georgetown Day School on Sep. 6. Seton won’t play until Sep. 9 when the teams face Bishop Ireton, who finished fourth in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference last season.
