Iowa received big news over the weekend when Maret forward/center Luka Garza committed to the Hawkeyes on Sept. 10.

The 6-foot-11 senior made his college decision after he took an unofficial visit to Iowa on the same day. Prior to that visit, Garza went on an official visit to Georgia. The No. 2 player in Washington D.C. held 21 offers from schools like Georgetown, Louisville, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech.

Garza led Maret in scoring with 25 points per game and helped them to a 18-11 record. Over the spring and summer, Garza played for Team Takeover in the Nike EYBL circuit. He played alongside Gonzaga’s Chris Lykes, DeMatha’s D.J. Harvey and Paul VI’s Aaron Thompson. He also featured his talents at the NBA Players Association Top 100 Camp and the Victor Oladipo Skills Academy.

Luka can be described as an offensively gifted big man, who can score in the paint, and has a good enough shooting range to knock down the three ball. Garza can use his size to get rebounds, but he needs to work on getting better on the defensive end.
