Redskins continue their hot streak with win over the Eagles

The Washington Redskins are winners of four straight after defeating the Philadelphia Eagles, 27-20 on Sunday.

Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins had a solid outing, throwing for 263 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Running back Matt Jones impressed once again as he racked up 153 rushing yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Pierre Garcon had 77 yards, while Vernon Davis and Jamison Crowder caught one touchdown each.

Defensive end Ryan Kerrigan was the bright spot on defense, recording four tackles, two sacks and four hits on the quarterback.

Eagles rookie quarterback Carson Wentz went 11/22 and threw for 179 yards and no touchdowns. Running back Ryan Matthews tallied 60 yards on the ground.

Washington’s third drive of the game started with Cousins hitting his receiver DeSean Jackson for a 35-yard pass. That followed by Jones breaking loose for a 15-yard gain. Cousins was able to hook up with Crowder for a 16-yard touchdown.

In the second quarter, undrafted running back Robert Kelley ran for 45 yards to put Washington into Eagles territory. Cousins found Vernon Davis for a 13-yard score to put the Redskins up 14-0. Davis was penalized after the play when shot the ball over the goal post.

Eagles Wendell Small returned a short kick for a 86-yard touchdown that cut the deficit to 14-7. On the Redskins next possession, Cousins threw an interception to safety Mychal Kendricks, which he returned for a touchdown that tied the game with 3:55 left before halftime. Jones one-yard touchdown run put the Redskins up 21-14 going into the third quarter.

The Redskins opened the second half with a 32-yard field goal by kicker Dustin Hopkins. The Eagles answered back with a field goal of their own to make it a 24-17 Washington lead.

Hopkins 50-yard field goal with 9:45 left in the fourth quarter put the Redskins up 27-14. The Redskins defense held the Eagles to only kicking two field goals that made it a 27-20 game.

In the final minutes of the game, Cousins handed the ball to Jones for 57-yard run that clinched Washington’s fourth straight win.

The Redskins look to continue their winning streak when they take on the Detroit Lions on the road this Sunday.
