Player: Darryl Morsell
Class: 2017
School: Mt. Saint Joseph
Position: Guard
Recruiting Status: Signed with Maryland
Morsell became the Terps first Baltimore prospect in the Mark Turgeon era when he signed on Thursday. He is rated a four-star and ranked the No. 5 combo guard in the nation by 247sports. He averaged 10 points, five rebounds and one assist during his junior season, which he was named Baltimore Sun First Team All-Metro.
“Darryl was a priority for us because we don’t have anyone like him on our team,” Mark Turgeon said in a press release. “He’s tough, athletic and versatile and plays with a very high basketball IQ. He is a tremendous kid who is an honor roll student and comes from a great family.”
Morsell can be described as a player with good athleticism and strength. Scout’s Evan Daniels believe Morsell’s basketball IQ and his upside will fit well in the Terps program.
“Darryl is aggressive and willing to drive the ball and plays well thru contact. He’s got great upside and a chance to be an impact guard prospect for Maryland,” Daniels said. “His high IQ combined with his strength and athleticism will fit well with what Maryland needs to add to its backcourt.”
