
John Carroll beat Providence Day School, 76-63 behind solid performances by Immanuel Quickley and Montez Mathis at the Chick-fil-a Classic on Wednesday.
Quickley, who is ranked the top player in Maryland in the 2018 class, finished with 24 points (7-12 FG), three assists and two steals. Mathis registered 24 points, seven rebounds and two steals.
John Carroll got going early with a 16-5 lead. Providence Day managed to cut the Patriots’ lead down to seven at the end of the half. Chargers’ Trey Wertz scored 18 points in the half and finished with 32 points.
John Carroll outscored Providence Day 34-30 in the second half to win the game. Cameron Byers and Nigel Haughton scored 12 points each.
Qadir Ismail only scored two points, but collected 10 rebounds. The Patriots shot the ball well as they were 51 percent from the floor.
John Carroll will advance to the semifinals of the American Bracket.
