Sidwell Friends senior forward Saddiq Bey committed to N.C. State on Thursday evening.
Bey, who stands at 6-foot-7, is ranked the No. 83 player in the country and the second best player in Washington, D.C. by 247sports. He is the Wolfpack’s top rated recruit in the 2018 class.
Bey held offers from Georgetown, Xavier, Rutgers, Miami, Princeton and others. He took official visits to Pittsburgh, Xavier, Northwestern and N.C. State in October before making his decision.
“I don’t want to say it was pressure, because it’s a great thing to have options, but everyone asks you, ‘Where are you going? Where are you going?’ ” Bey told the Washington Post. “And now I can tell them, and it feels like a sort of weight has been lifted off my shoulders.”
Bey averaged 14.2 points, 6.5 rebounds, two and two steals per game last season where Sidwell Friends went to the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference championship without top player Jelani Williams.
“Saddiq is a quiet kid who plays really, really loudly,” Sidwell Friends head coach Eric Singletary said. “It’s so awesome to see how much he has grown, literally in height and as a basketball player and young man. He’s continuing the great tradition at Sidwell.”
