Rob Garner will not return as Wise basketball head coach for 2018-19 season

Wise has decided not to renew boy's basketball head coach Rob Garner's contract for the 2018-19 season.

Wise High School boy’s basketball head coach Rob Garner will not coach the team next season. The school’s athletic director did not renew Garner’s contract, according to the Washington Post.

Garner informed players and families of the school’s decision via text message on Thursday.

Garner spent seven years as the head coach for Wise. He posted a 131-34 record during his time with the Pumas. Wise finished the 2017-18 season with a 20-5 record and ranked No. 14 in the Washington Post top 25 rankings.

  • Sidwell Friends forward Saddiq Bey was granted a full release from NC State on Wednesday, according to the Washington Post. Bey, who is rated a four-star and ranked in the ESPN 100, committed to NC State in November.  The news of Bey’s release came after the Wolfpack picked up transfer Sacha Killey-Jones, who spent two years at Kentucky. Bey averaged 21.2 points per game during his senior season.
  • Bishop O’Connell senior guard Matt Becht will remain at Mount St. Mary’s despite being  granted a full release from the school on May 9 after the hiring of Dan Engelstad.
