
St. John’s and Bishop McNamara have been two of the top teams in the nation this season, placing in the top five of the USA Today Girls’ Basketball Rankings. Both teams will play each other for the first time on Tuesday evening.

Bishop McNamara (18-0) enters Tuesday’s game, ranked the best team in the country. The Mustangs are also ranked first in the Washington Post’s All-Mets Girls’ basketball Top 20. However, McNamara hasn’t beat St. John’s since 2016.
McNamara defeated Holy Cross 94-26 in its last game on Jan. 15. That game marked the second this season McNamara scored 90 or more points. Jake Brown-Turner had 14 points, while Aliyah Mathru had a team-high 23 points.
St. John’s (19-1) outscored Paul VI 21-9 in the first quarter and end winning 60-40 on Jan. 20. All-Met Player of the Year Azzi Fudd dropped 14 points. Fudd, who is one of the top girls basketball players in the country, is averaging an impressive 27.6 points per game.
