Morgan State announced on Tuesday that Tyrone Wheatley will be the new head football coach.
“Were making some strategic investments,” Morgan State President David Wilson. “We wanted to start Coach Wheatley off with a clean slate.”
After Morgan State Athletic Director Edward Scott had a two-hour phone call with Wheatley and Scott, he knew the former NFL player would be the man for the job.
“He has all the qualities,” Scott said. “As far as being a winner on the field and in life with his family. He also understands the demographic of the young men in the program.”
Wheatley told the press he wanted to go somewhere that was going to let him grow as a coach. He felt he made the right decision with Morgan State.
“My vision is not football,” Wheatley said. “I want to help these young men strive and put them in places to network because football will end but what are you going to do after.”
Bears quarterback Dion Golatt feels Wheatley will be a great addition to the program.
“I feel like he’s a good addition to the Morgan family as a whole,” Golatt said.
