
Sidwell Friends pulled off one of the biggest upsets this season when the team defeated Wilson High School in the D.C. State Athletic Association Class AA championship on Sunday.
Quakers’ Jack Lewis finished with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Sidwell Friends’ Jason Gibson had 24 points and four assists before fouling out in overtime. Dean Mazlish played hero for the Quakers when he crossed a Wilson defender and buried a buzzer beating three pointer to give his team their first ever DCSAA title. Mazlish finished the game with nine points.
Wilson was led by Dimingus Stevens, who tallied 21 points and four rebounds. Jay Heath Jr. added 17 points and four assists. Terps’ commits Makhi and and Makhel Mitchell combined to score 11 points before fouling out.
Last week, Wilson was ranked first in the Washington Post Top 25 Boys’ Basketball Rankings. Sidwell Friends was ranked No. 19 in the area.
