Paul VI senior guard Anthony Harris verbally committed to North Carolina during his official visit to Chapel Hill on Tuesday.

“I just got to know the coaches really well over the past two or three weeks,” Harris told “The culture there is different than any other. I had a great time at Indiana as well, but UNC is closer to me and easier for my family to see me play. I also have family in North Carolina as well. Just to be a part of that culture and family and it’s just different.”

Harris was the Tar Heels’ second commitment on Tuesday, as five-star guard Cole Anthony pledged to North Carolina.

Harris was originally committed to Virginia Tech, but reopened recruitment on April 4 when Buzz Williams left the Hokies to become the new men’s basketball head coach at Texas A&M. Harris considered Maryland, Indiana and Virginia Tech before making his official decision.

“Anthony’s a remarkable young man,” North Carolina Head Coach Roy Williams said in a release by the school. “I love his toughness and competitiveness. A team can never have enough of these qualities. We are very fortunate to have a player of his caliber join our program. His parents (Anthony Sr. and Meecsha Harris) have done a great job raising him and Coach Farello has done a tremendous job coaching him at Paul VI. He’s a great addition to our program.”

Harris is rated a four-star and ranked the No. 65 player in the 2019 class by 247sports. Harris missed his the majority of his senior season after tearing his ACL in December. Harris is expected to return to the court in August.

Harris will join his Team Takeover teammate Armando Bacot in the Tar Heels’ 2019 recruiting class.
