DeMatha’s matchup against Montverde features some of the nation’s best

DeMatha takes on national powerhouse Montverde Academy on national television.

DeMatha will face one of its biggest challenges this season, as the Stags will play top-ranked Montverde Academy in Florida on Thursday evening.

The Stags, who are ranked 18th in the Nation by USA Today, are 3-1 and coming off a 94-43 victory over Bishop O’Connell on Tuesday. DeMatha’s only loss this season came against Sunrise Christian during the last day of the National High School Hoops Festival.

Montverde, 4-0, will enter the matchup ranked first in the country by USA Today. Montverde features six five-star prospects on the roster. Leading the talented group is Oklahoma State commit Cade Cunningham, who is ranked the second best player in the 2020 recruiting class by 247Sports. Small forward Scottie Barnes, a Florida State signee, is ranked the third best small forward and the ninth overall player in the nation.

DeMatha small forward Earl Timberlake will be another player Montverde has to watch out for. Timberlake, a Miami commit, is ranked the best player in Maryland by 247Sports and has improved as a three-level scorer.

DeMatha’s seven-foot center Hunter Dickinson, who is ranked the 34th player in the 2020 class and fields offers from Duke and others, will have a deal with Montverde’s 6-10 big man Day’Ron Sharpe, a North Carolina commit and the third best center in the nation.

The game will tip-off at 8 p.m. on ESPNU.
