Senior guard D.J. Harvey became the second player since NBA Hall of Famer Adrian Dantley make the starting lineup in his first game on the varsity level. Since then, the four-star recruit has become one of the top players in the nation.
Harvey is ranked the top player in Maryland and the No. 44 overall player in the nation by 247sports. Prior to choosing the Fighting Irish, Harvey held offers from Duke, Arizona, Maryland, Louisville, Villanova and more.
Last season, Harvey averaged 15.4 points, seven rebounds and four assists per game. He helped the Stags reach the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship game and win the Alhambra Tournament.
“He is a big guard with a complete skill set. He has a feel for the game and a great shooting stroke. Add in his athletic ability and high basketball I.Q. and we feel he will fit really well into our system,” Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey said in a press release. “He has been our number-one target for two years and we are thrilled that he will be joining us.”
