DeMatha’s four-star defensive tackle Austin Fontaine committed to Maryland on Saturday. Fontaine is the Terps highest commitment in the 2018 class.
Fontaine is ranked the No. 7 defensive tackle in the 2018 class and the No. 4 player in Maryland by 247sports. Schools like Clemson, Michigan, Michigan State, Kentucky, Ohio State, and Penn State were pursuing the DeMatha standout.
“A Player with incredibly high ceiling,” DeMatha coach Elijah Brooks told Inside Maryland Sports. “Strong, athletic lineman with great bend and good feet. Great student of the game, who will be an impact player for the Terps.”
Fontaine joins his DeMatha teammate Evan Gregory, who committed a few minutes later.
Both players will continue the DeMatha to Maryland movement that’s been going on for the last two years. The Terps already have Tino Ellis, D.J. Turner, and Terrance Davis representing the Stags in College Park.
The 2017 class features Stags offensive lineman Marcus Minor and running back Anthony McFarland.
