Three-star combo guard Serrel Smith, a Florida native, committed to Maryland on Wednesday.
“Serrel is a natural scorer,” Terps head coach Mark Turgeon said in a release by the school. “He has great length, terrific quickness and is a really strong defender. He’s a high-character young man who will fit in nicely with the rest of our new recruiting class and our team.”
Smith is ranked the No. 13 combo guard in the country and the No. 18 prospect in Florida, according to 247sports.com. Smith was committed to Ole Miss in the fall, but had a change of heart after the departure of former head coach Andy Kennedy.
Smith averaged 29 points and five rebounds per game during his senior season at St. Petersburg.

“I feel like I can contribute for this team on both ends of the court,” Smith said in the same release. “It’s an offense that features a lot of screen and rolls where they spread the floor. It fits my game well and it’s a system that I’m excited to play in.”
